THE VILLAGE OF UPPER NCERA is actually two villages - Lalini, which is the lower section - and Sigingqini, which is the upper section.

This is one of several gardens Ernest has - this one is specifically for others in the village who do not have a garden.

SIGINGQINI VILLAGE HOME GARDEN COMMITTEE:

Convener: Mhlophe Cebisa - 81 years old & still married - next visit we'll have to get the number of years he's been married!
Vice Convener:  Nophumzile Timla - age 54 and married; cares for 3 orphaned grandchildren.
Secretary: Nothemba Joseph - age 54 who lives alone in a small 4-room home.
Treasurer: Nokwanda Coboza - 72 years old; also lives alone.

There are 38 families in the Sigingqini Committee.  The average age of the head of family is 63; these 38 families are caring for a total of 24 orphaned grandchildren.
Tim Wigley visited this committee in October - click HERE to see his report.

Below is a photo from our recent 2012 trip - we are on the front entry porch to the Jwambi's home - from left to right on the porch are Bonnie, Winnie Maneli, Patiswa Jwambi and Nothemba Joseph, with Ernest Jwambi standing outside in the yard.

To the left is Charlie with his good friend, Ernest.  Sadly, Ernest is on his way to a funeral of a relative in Port Elizabeth - and Charlie is on his way home - although he will 1st get to visit a game park with Barbara, Winnie, Bonnie & Ed. That part of the trip will be added 'soon.'
