AUGUST 2012 VISIT TO THE TYHUME VALLEY
This trip - from our perspective - was the best visit ever. Over the next few weeks, I hope to add to this web site all of the events that occurred to substantiate our claim. Each time new info is added, the "update date" shown above will be reset.
2012 TRIP - HOME GARDEN GUIDELINES
OUR FOCUS IS ON HOME GARDENS, AND THESE ARE DOCUMENTS THAT CAPTURE WHAT WAS DONE IN SUPPORT OF THE HOME GARDENS PROJECT: 1. The "Home Garden Constitution" was developed in 2010 and update on this trip to assist the committees in each village to properly manage the project. In South Africa, community projects use these as a means of defining the 'who, what and why' of the project. Click HERE to see the document.
2. Three Attachments were developed during this trip to add to the Constitution: A - Guidelines for setting up Communal Garden Constitutions Click HERE to view. B - The Communal Cultivator - Guidelines for how to share in the ownership & operation of a communal cultivator [rototiller]. Click HERE to view. C - A list of the eight Home Garden Committees Click HERE to view. |
2012 trip - Let's start with the end - our final gift to WinnieWinnie and the other 3 visitors to the USA in 2004 were guests in our home. On this visit - like most others, we were guests in her home. Bonnie & I commissioned a Maine artist - Rick Rose from Temple - to paint a composite picture to commemorate our friendship. Bonnie is wearing a traditional Xhosa dress given to her by Winnie. The reflections in the windows of our home in Maine capture the waterfalls of Sompondo and the 'confetti villages' of the Tyhume Valley. Click HERE to see a larger version of the painting.
